Cognitive Development

Cognitive development refers to the construction of a child's thought processes, including memory, understanding, perception, intelligence, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Although every child develops on their own timetable, common cognitive milestones at the age of 2 include: identifying a child's own gender, the ability to match objects, identifying simple shapes and common colors, an increased attention span, and a quickly growing vocabulary.  Although cognitive ability is partially determined by hereditary factors, providing a child with a stimulating learning environment full of rich learning experience, like a Kindermusik class, is important for supporting a child's cognitive development.  Making the most of your Home Materials at home with your child continues to support his cognitive development.
